Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh is once again making headlines for his candid remarks. Just a few days ago, he admitted that there was a time when his desire to earn money had turned into an “addiction.” Now, he has made another surprising revelation, saying that he has no idea how much money is in his bank account.
During a recent live session with fans, one viewer asked Diljit about his bank balance. His response left many people surprised.
Diljit said, “Honestly, I don’t know anything about my bank balance. People may think I’m joking, but I’m not. I don’t even have access to my bank accounts. I have no idea when money comes in, when it goes out, where it comes from, or where it’s spent. If I want to buy something, I simply ask my team whether we have the budget for it. If they say yes, I go ahead with the purchase.”
His Team Handles All Financial Decisions
Diljit explained that his entire financial management is handled by his team, while he stays away from day-to-day financial matters.
He said that whenever they plan a major concert or event, the only thing he asks is whether there is enough budget available and whether all payments can be made on time.
He added, “If my team tells me everything is in order, we move ahead with the show. Beyond that, I don’t know anything. I don’t even know how much tax I pay or how much money is credited to my accounts.”
To make it clear that he was being completely truthful, Diljit emphasized that he had no reason to lie about the matter.
‘Money Doesn’t Go With You’
Sharing his perspective on wealth, Diljit said that money ultimately stays behind and cannot be taken along after death.
He acknowledged that some people may believe such thoughts are easier to express after achieving financial success. However, he also believes that most of the world’s conflicts, competition, and power struggles revolve around money.
He said, “When we leave this world, money stays here. No one takes it with them. People may say it’s easy for me to say this because I have money, and I understand their point. But it’s also true that much of the chaos, stress, and struggle for power in the world is driven by money.”
From Financial Hardship to International Stardom
Diljit’s remarks come shortly after he spoke about his childhood struggles during an appearance on Q with Tom Power.
He recalled that after releasing his first music album in 2002, he accepted every performance opportunity that came his way. Whether it was a birthday party, a wedding, or a small local event, he never turned down an offer.
Diljit said, “If someone offered me ₹5,000, ₹10,000, or ₹15,000, I accepted without hesitation. I performed everywhere, day and night.”
Reflecting on his childhood, he revealed that his family faced severe financial difficulties, to the point where visiting a doctor was often beyond their means.
He said, “I come from a very simple and poor family. Our financial situation was so difficult that even getting medical treatment was a challenge. We couldn’t afford to fall sick.”
Diljit admitted that growing up in such circumstances motivated him to work relentlessly, and eventually, earning money became his biggest priority.
Dil-Luminati Tour Creates History
Today, Diljit Dosanjh is regarded as one of India’s biggest global music stars.
According to reports, his Dil-Luminati Tour generated an estimated economic impact of around ₹943 crore, making it the highest-grossing concert tour in India’s history, according to an EY report. Media reports also suggest that Diljit paid nearly ₹114 crore in taxes from the earnings generated by the tour.
Despite achieving extraordinary success and financial wealth, Diljit says he still keeps himself largely disconnected from his personal finances, leaving almost every monetary decision in the hands of his trusted team.
