Delhi Metro Ticket Prices Increased, Online Booking to Cost Extra

Delhi Metro fare hiked from today, online ticket booking to cost ₹1–5 extra

If you are a regular commuter of the Delhi Metro, get ready to feel a little extra burden on your pocket. Yes, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced a revision in fares starting today, 25th August. The last time DMRC increased metro fares was back in 2017, and now, after a gap of eight years, ticket prices have once again gone up. Let’s take a detailed look at the new fare structure and how much it has changed compared to the previous one.

Responding to a query from a social media user regarding the metro fare, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) clarified that the hike would be minimal. Across all metro lines, fares will increase by just ₹1 to ₹4. Posting on X, DMRC stated

“It is confirmed that the revised Delhi Metro fares will come into effect from tomorrow, i.e., 25th August 2025. The change will be nominal, with fares rising between ₹1 and ₹4, while on the Airport Express Line the hike will be up to ₹5.”

In a separate post today, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced that metro fares have been revised effective from August 25, 2025. The hike is relatively nominal, ranging from ₹1 to ₹4, depending on the travel distance (with up to ₹5 increase on the Airport Express Line).

The new fare structure from August 25, 2025, is as follows

Distance Slab Existing Fare (Weekdays) Revised Fare (Weekdays) Existing Fare (Sundays & National Holidays) Revised Fare (Sundays & National Holidays)
0–2 km ₹10 ₹11 ₹10 ₹11
2–5 km ₹20 ₹21 ₹10 ₹11
5–12 km ₹30 ₹32 ₹20 ₹21
12–21 km ₹40 ₹43 ₹30 ₹32
21–32 km ₹50 ₹54 ₹40 ₹43

For the Airport Express Line, the increase is slightly higher, up to ₹5 per journey.

Final Thoughts

The new fare structure starting 25th August 2025 marks an important change for Delhi’s transport system. Even though the hike is small, it shows how public transport must adapt to rising costs. For passengers, it means planning their daily travel with a little more care.

The Delhi Metro continues to be the backbone of the city’s daily life. Despite the fare revision, it still offers a safe, reliable, and time-saving service to millions.
